Andre Villas-Boas may have reiterated his chairman’s guarantee that offers for Gareth Bale will not be considered, but that has not stopped the winger from expressing his admiration for the Spanish league whilst harbouring hopes of a future move.

Bale has arguably been one of the most sought-after players in this summer, but Villas-Boas attempted to silence his suitors by claiming that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy had staked a personal guarantee.

The possibility that Bale will continue as a Spurs player next season may not be pleasant hearing for Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, who were all gunning for the Welshman.

However, Bale himself has spoken highly of the Spanish league having gained first-hand experience of playing against Los Blancos in a 5-0 Champions League aggregate defeat back in 2011.

"I probably prefer Spanish football to the others", he told Esquire magazine. "It’s very technical the way they play, and they keep the ball well.

"Whenever Spurs have played against Spanish teams in the past they’ve always made it difficult for us. So I’d say that Spanish football is probably the best I’ve seen."

Whether Bale’s admiration translates to a move this summer remains open to speculation, but the 23-year-old does not shy away from hoping to one day play at the same level as the nine-time European champions.

The man who scored 21 goals in 33 Premier League games last season is tipped for bigger things in the future, and has himself confirmed a long-held desire.

"Obviously, I’d like to try other leagues in the future", he added. "Every player would like to get as high as they can and try different things.

"It’s something that the future holds and it’s something that I’m very interested to try in the least."
