Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez has urged the club’s young players to make use of the training sessions in the best way possible in order to make their mark.

The Magpies returned for their pre-season training at the club’s Benton-based training centre this morning for a series of fitness tests. The club’s young players, which include the likes of Sammy Ameobi, James Tavernier, and Haris Vuckic, also joined the preparations prior to the 2013/14 campaign.

The trio experienced first team football under manager Alan Pardew last season. The other promising youngsters, including Remie Streete, Bradden Inman as well as Conor Newton, are also keen on making their appearances with the senior side in the upcoming season.

Gutierrez, 29, believes that the club’s starlets have a great career ahead of them, but they have to be clever in how they learn.

"They have a great future ahead of them but they have to learn, they have to be clever", the Argentina international told his club’s official site.

"There is a good opportunity for them here at Newcastle. I wish that when I was their age I was at a club like this one with these chances.

"Players do not always have this opportunity and they should realise how lucky they are.”

The Magpies, under Pardew, finished 16th in the English Premier League last season, narrowly edging away from the relegation zone.

They kick-off their league campaign in the 2013/14 season on 17th August, with a clash against 2011/12 Premier League winners Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
