Tottenham Hotspur starlet midfielder Tom Carroll has urged the club’s young talents to push up their performances in pre-season to impress.

Spurs have announced pre-season friendlies against League One sides Swindon Town and Colchester United on 16th July and 19th July respectively, followed by Asian Trophy participation. They also take on French giants Monaco, who clinched promotion to the French top flight last season, on 3rd August, at the Stade Louis II.

Carroll has been with the North London outfit since 2008 as a youth player, and he has spoken about his own experience to inspire the youngsters. The midfielder appeared in all of Spurs’ pre-season friendly matches last season.

He also clocked up a total 14 appearances with the first team last season, which included a debut in the Premier League.

“Last pre-season I did well and it’s always a chance for the younger lads to impress”, Carroll, 21, told his club’s official site.

“If you get a chance, you have to take it and if you do well, you will be trusted when the season starts.

“Last season was a positive for me and hopefully I’ll push on again and make more appearances.”

Andre-Villas Boas’ side kick-off their campaign in the English Premier League in the 2013/14 season with a clash against newly promoted Crystal Palace on 17th August at Selhurst Park.

They also take on La Liga side Espanyol in a friendly at White Hart Lane on 10th August.
