Fiorentina are keeping their cards firmly close to their chest on the potential purchase of Mario Gomez from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, with financial considerations high on the agenda for La Viola.

Earlier this week, Fiorentina were understood to be well within sight of securing Gomez on an €18m deal, with negotiations understood to be at an advanced stage.

Gomez had been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A club since the end of a season that has seen him make 21 league appearances but mostly as a substitute.

While Gomez remains a wanted man at Fiorentina, sporting director Daniele Prade is foreseeing a fiscal battle, whereby the club will not follow a buy-at-all-costs policy.

"Let there be no doubt that Mario Gomez is a player who interests us", Prade was quoted by Corriere dello Sport as saying.

"But at the moment, there are certain conditions that we and Bayern Munich must meet if we are to close the deal. There are financial fair play parameters that the club wants to respect."

One of the ways for Fiorentina to finance Gomez’s transfer could be with the sale of in-demand Stevan Jovetic, who is coveted by Juventus, Roma and Arsenal.

However, Prade insists the club are not adhering to that policy, and are only getting themselves involved on a case-by-case basis.

"The arrival of new players to Fiorentina is not dependent on the sale of others", he added. "[Club owners] the Della Valle family have been very clear about this.

"If the deal is there to be made, we have to try to take it home."
