Marc-Andre ter Stegen has joined his sporting director in pouring cold water over reports that he is set for a Barcelona contract this summer, even if the door on a future move away from Borussia Monchengladbach is not fully closed.

The young goalkeeper has been subject to much speculation, which got on sporting director Max Eberl’s nerves on Tuesday.

He made 34 league appearances this season for Gladbach, keeping nine clean sheets, and his talents made him a favourite to join Barcelona.

The Catalan club are set to lose veteran Victor Valdes at some point, and Ter Stegen was mooted as a possible successor, given Barcelona have been advised to buy young.

However, the goalkeeper himself remains happy to continue his stay with Gladbach, with a contract that runs until 2015, telling Bild: "The reports that I have supposedly signed for Barcelona are all very amusing.

"Apparently other people know more about my future than I do. The fact is, I’m here and I am looking forward to the new season with Borussia.

"We are getting some great new additions to the club, and I’m really curious to see what we emerge with."

His displays can only get better from here on, and both player and club coach Lucien Favre agree the future remains uncertain.

"You never know what can happen in the coming seasons. Anything can happen", Ter Stegen said, to which Favre added: "You can never be sure, especially if he puts in two good years of performances."
