Benfica manager Jorge Jesus has opened the doors of the Estadio da Luz for the return of one of the club’s former players, Portuguese left-back Fabio Coentrao.

Coentrao, 25, is currently under contract with Spanish stalwarts Real Madrid, although the Portuguese defender is believed to be edging close towards the Santiago Bernabeu exit.

Indeed, the Real Madrid top brass have grown impatient of Coentrao, whose work ethic off the pitch and poor perfomances on it drew the ire of both team-mates and club fans.

As a result, Los Blancos are believed to be finding ways to get rid of the 25-year-old, with Chelsea tipped to be interested in the left-back, as they seek a long-term replacement for veteran Ashley Cole.

Defending Serie A champions Juventus are also credited with interest in signing Coentrao, but Jesus is intent on bringing back the defender to Portugal if he can have it his way.

"I would really like to have Coentrao", Jesus told Spanish daily Marca.

"Fabio is a player that the fans love and we all got him to grow when few believed in him", the Portuguese tactician added.

Coentrao’s contract with Real Madrid sees him locked down at the Santiago Bernabeu until the end of the 2016/17 campaign.
