Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that the club are very interested in snapping up highly-rated Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.

While it has been reported that the Saints have indulged in talks with the representatives of the Kenyan international and both clubs have reached an agreement for a fee in the region of £12m.



The Saints boss has admitted his admiration for the player and also insisted that Southampton are hoping to continue pushing for securing Wanyama, as well as other players.

“We are very interested in Wanyama and we will see how it progresses", Pochettino told BBC Radio Solent.

"He isn’t the only player we are looking at though and we are expecting to hopefully advance in negotiations with other players."

Wanyama joined Celtic in the summer of 2011 from Beerschot. He won rave reviews for his displays with Neil Lennon’s side last season, as he clocked up 47 appearances, scoring nine times, and assisting on four occasions.

The 22-year-old also scored once for the Celts in the game against Spanish giants Barcelona in the group stages of the Champions League last season. Lennon’s men recorded a 2-1 win against the Catalan side.

Meanwhile, Southampton, who finished 14th in the Premier League last season, have already snapped up 23-year-old Croatian defender Dejan Lovren this summer.

The club are also linked with Brazil forward Leandro Damiao, Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo, as well as Argentina schemer Ever Banega.
