Vitesse schemer Marko Vejinovic has played down talk that he will comfortably replace Marco van Ginkel at the club, but said if he can match the Holland Under-21 talent he will be doing "okay".

Van Ginkel has left Holland to sign for English giants Chelsea, leaving a big hole in the Vitesse midfield which another Vitesse midfielder, Theo Janssen, suggested Vejinovic could fill.

But the 23-year-old is managing expectations, while hailing the role performed by the new Chelsea star.

"Our own Marco van Ginkel did a fantastic job", Vejinovic told Omroep Gelderland.

"If I can match that, it will be okay."

And the former Heracles midfielder, who joined Vitesse earlier this year, explains he has seen a big step up in quality.

"You’re playing with better player, internationals", he said.

"So it is indeed a higher level."

Vejinovic has represented Holland at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level and will be hopeful that he can take his chance to shine at Vitesse and force himself into Louis van Gaal’s senior selection headache.
