Ricardo Carvalho, who joined Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco from Real Madrid, believes that his former team-mate and compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to join him at the French club.

The 35-year-old central-defender feels that Ronaldo will remain at Real Madrid, the club he joined in 2009 from Manchester United.

Carvalho told Portuguese daily A Bola, "I’m sure Cristiano will extend his stay at Real. All players who decide to leave Real know that they are losers.

“But Cristiano is a winner. He always wants to win and that’s why I have no doubt that he will continue at Real.”

Ronaldo has taken his game to a new high since joining Real Madrid and has scored 201 goals in 199 matches.

The 28-year-old talisman helped the capital club to break their fierce rival Barcelona’s dominance when Los Blancos won the 2011/12 La Liga title, ending a drought of three years.

The 2008 Ballon d’Or winner has also won a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid but has failed to win a coveted Champions League title with Los Blancos.

Carvalho, on the other hand joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2010, but made only nine appearances for his former employers in the previous campaign.
