Italian World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro will take his first steps in a coaching role, after being appointed as an assistant under Cosmin Olaroiu at Al Ahli.
The United Arab Emirates club finished second in the Etisalat Pro League last season, and immediately sought a change in management by appointing Olaroiu to the helm.
And Cannavaro, who spent time as a player and then in an administrative role at Ahli, is now set to be a coach at the club.
An Al Ahli statement on the club’s official site read: "Al Ahli Club Football company has agreed a contract with Romanian coach Cosmin Olaroiu that will see him lead the team for three years.

"The contract was signed in the presence of club CEO Ahmed Khalifa Hammad, sporting director Roy Aitken and team manager Ahmed Shah.
"Fabio Cannavaro will join the coaching staff as one of the coach’s assistants."
Olaroiu is expected to begin his formal takeover at Al Ahli next week when the club will begin preparing for their pre-season training, set to take place in Austria.
Olaroiu was recruited from league champions Al Ain at the end of the season, whilst Cannavaro has been associated with Al Ahli since 2011 when he spent two years as a player before officially retiring from football.
While Cannavaro has no previous coaching experience, Olaroiu has managed other middle-eastern teams, in addition to two spells in his home country with Steaua Bucharest.
