Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has confirmed that the French giants are in talks with Napoli over signing striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan has been chased by Chelsea this summer, while Manchester City were also keen, but baulked at paying Cavani’s €63m release clause. Real Madrid have also been floated as a potential destination.

But wealthy Ligue 1 champions PSG are now firmly leading the race and are dreaming of pairing Cavani with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack.

"We have made Napoli a proposal that we feel is interesting", Leonardo told Sky Italia.

"The negotiations are continuing.

"Perhaps we can release some public news in the coming days."

So far PSG are thought to have bid around the €50m mark for Cavani, while Napoli are sticking doggedly to their view that the entire €63m release clause must be paid for the striker.

Last season Cavani hit the back of the net 29 times in 34 Serie A games, helping Napoli to a second-place finish.
