Paris Saint-Germain will not only wager to keep Thiago Silva at the club for next season, but coach Laurent Blanc also believes the Brazilian defender is "one of the best" in the world.

Barcelona are keeping their ears very close to the ground in case a move for Silva becomes a possibility, with the player recently captaining Brazil’s successful Confederations Cup campaign.

The former AC Milan man also revealed earlier this month that Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova had approached him for a move last season.

It remains to be seen if the Catalan club can use the same tactics that brought Silva’s compatriot Neymar to Spain this summer, but the 28-year-old has several fans within the PSG set-up.

Owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted Silva is "priceless", with Blanc today telling L’Equipe: "He will stay [at PSG]. It is only my opinion but I think Thiago will be in Paris for this season.

"He is one of the best central defenders in the world. On the pitch he exudes a sense of leadership. He is also a leader in the way he talks, although some players do not need to talk a lot to win."

Silva, who turned out 22 times in Ligue 1 last season to help PSG to their first title in nearly two decades, has a contract with the capital club until 2017.
