Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes has temporarily turned down the chance to join the coaching staff at Manchester United, according to new Red Devils boss David Moyes.

Scholes wants to take a break from football and spend time with his family.

The Scot has already appointed Ryan Giggs as a player-cum-coach, while Phil Neville has joined Moyes from Everton at the Aon Training Complex.

The new-look Manchester United coaching staff also consists of Steve Round, Jimmy Lumsden and Chris Woods.

In his first press conference as a Manchester United manager, Moyes gave a clue that he has Scholes in mind as a future coach at the club.

Moyes further added that he had a chat with Scholes over phone and believes that he will be able to rope in the legend once the former midfielder is ready.

Moyes told the club’s official site, “Paul was fantastic with me and wanted to help a lot. I probably spent an hour or two on the phone with him.

"He wants to spend time with his family at the moment. We’ll bring him in when he’s ready.”

Scholes spent 20 trophy-laden seasons with Manchester United and amassed more than 700 appearances for the club, scoring 155 times in the process.
