Manchester United boss David Moyes has once again had to fend off queries on the future of striker Wayne Rooney, even as he continues his recovery from injury.

Rooney was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of Asia with a hamstring injury, a move that fuelled speculation about a transfer.

Rooney’s transfer requests have divided opinion in England, but the striker is not short of options as Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have all expressed an interest.

Chelsea, in particular, will be chomping at the bit to snap up Rooney, with a bid already being tabled and subsequently rejected.

However, Moyes continues to maintain the club’s stance on Rooney, after Manchester United lost their second game in three outings today.

"We have said and the club have said he is not for sale", Moyes was quoted as saying by the BBC. "That has not changed. I do expect Wayne to be in Stockholm. As far as I know he is coming on.

"He has started light jogging and the feedback from the physios is that he is progressing so hopefully those dates will still be right when we get back."

Manchester United’s latest defeat came against Yokohama Marinos, as the Reds went down 3-2, in a game that also saw Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck suffer slight knocks.

"We’ve got a couple of wee worries", Moyes added. "Robin just felt his thigh in the first half and we didn’t want to take any chances.

"Danny Welbeck felt his groin when he came on and we’ve just got to make sure they’re all okay especially with so many games coming up.

"We’ve still got a few games to play before the season starts when we get back home."
