Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has urged his side to improve their away form after they succumbed to a surprise 1-0 loss against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

A 21st minute Phil Bardsley goal was the difference between the sides as the Citizens lost their fourth away Premier League game of the season.

And Pellegrini admits that it will be tough for Manchester City to fight for the league title if they do not improve their away form.

"I am concerned because we are losing too many points away", the manager was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"Of course, it's very difficult if you don't win away to try to fight for the Premier League."

However, despite losing on the road against Cardiff City, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland this season, Pellegrini stated that his side will not change their playing style.

The Chilean tactician also believes that Manchester City are not out of the Premier League race in spite of sliding down to eighth place in the league standings with 19 points from 11 outings, six points behind leaders Arsenal.

"We will continue the same way because in the four defeats I am sure we are playing the correct way and I hope the wins will come", he added.

"The Premier League is very close. We have a lot of points to fight for and a lot of time."
