Virgil van Dijk admits he was delighted after scoring his first goals in Celtic colours in his side’s 4-1 win over Ross County in a Scottish Premiership game on Saturday.

The centre-back, who joined the Hoops from FC Groningen during the summer transfer window, opened the scoring in the 41st minute before doubling his side’s advantage after the break.

Midfielder Joe Ledley then scored a brace of his own, after Ross County reduced the arrears, to hand Celtic their ninth league win of the season.

And Van Dijk admitted that he had to wait for a long time to score his first goal for the reigning Scottish champions.

The Dutchman further added that Celtic controlled the game after he gave his side a first half lead.

“I´ve been waiting for my first Celtic goal for a long time so I’m very happy to have got my first two goals for the club”, he explained to his club’s official site.

“I had a couple of chances before my goal. We knew it was going to be a tough game but after our first goal, I thought we dominated the game.”

Celtic consolidated first spot in the league standings with the win as the club now have 30 points from 12 games, five points ahead of second-placed Inverness CT.
