Bayern Munich talisman Franck Ribery admits he would have preferred Real Madrid to Barcelona at a time when both clubs had been gunning for his signature.

Ribery was unsurprisingly being linked with the two La Liga giants as recently as two years ago, a chance the Frenchman rejected at the time.

He helped Bayern Munich clinch a historic treble last season and there seems little scope of him moving out in the near future.

Ribery has been a lot more open about the transfer speculation this year, and told AS: "[Zinedine] Zidane wanted me to go to Madrid and tried his fullest.

"There was a time when the two teams were interested in me and I liked them both. But I had a moment where I felt more towards Madrid than Barcelona.

"Barcelona and Madrid are very big teams. But now I do not care because Bayern Munich is my family."

Ribery had already made clear he had no regrets about turning down offers from either team, when he came clean on contact with the Spanish clubs.

"It's true that two or three years ago, there were contacts with Madrid and Barcelona", Ribery said in April.

"But I decided to stay and I do not regret it. I have been here for six years now and I feel at home."
