Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is confident he has a future at the Gunners and feels Sunday's match against Manchester United was ample proof of that.
Vermaelen has been kept out of the club's starting eleven in recent months by a solid partnership between Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker at the heart of the defence.
That has led to much transfer speculation around the Belgian, who had admitted his situation is far from ideal in a World Cup year.
But with Mertesacker being taken ill before the match against Manchester United, Vermaelen was drafted in.

And he is happy with how his performance went, even if Arsenal lost 1-0.
"It wasn't hard. I go into every game ready to play. I always make sure I'm mentally ready and physically ready, so for me it wasn't difficult", Vermaelen told his club's official site.
"I knew it could happen at any moment so I'm always ready. I've been saying it for weeks and months and all of a sudden it happened.
"I'm always positive. What I have said is that it is not about my situation but what the team does and I'm really happy that we're top of the league.
"Personally I'm still confident I can play for this club and every chance I get I will do a job for this club."
