Belgium defender Thomas Vermaelen has reflected upon his side's 2-0 defeat to Colombia last night and concluded "there is plenty to do".

The Red Devils had swept through World Cup qualifying and, ranked fifth in the FIFA world rankings, were expected to prove a tough task for fourth-ranked side Colombia.

But two goals in the second half from the Colombians proved too much for Vermaelen and company to deal with.

However, the defender refused to believe that the result has brought Belgium back down to earth.

"We always keen our feet on the ground and we knew that there are many things that could be improved", he told Sporza.

"There is plenty to do."

Vermaelen, who has struggled for playing time at club side Arsenal this season, was also happy to clock up minutes on the pitch.

"It's always nice to play and for me it's good to get matches", he said.
