Emiliano Insua's Serie A move cannot be ruled out, according to his agent, as it emerged the former Liverpool left-back had been very close to joining Fiorentina in 2010.

Insua is believed to be an Inter Milan target with the Atletico Madrid man contracted until 2016.

Insua spent two spells at Anfield – both on loan and otherwise – after moving from Boca Juniors in his native Argentina.

He switched from Sporting Lisbon to Atletico in January this year, but is most keen to try his hand at Serie A.

"We cannot exclude the possibility of a departure", his agent and brother Maxi told Tutto Mercato. "But it depends on the offers that come.

"To date, he remains an Atletico player. He does not play as much as he would like, but he is very happy at Atletico.

"We have not spoken about [the Inter Milan interest] yet. We will see in the coming weeks. In 2010, he was close to joining Fiorentina. He would like to be able to play in Italy one day."

Insua has made just three La Liga appearances this season, which was the same number he made in the second half of the 2012/13 campaign.
