Former Manchester United midfielder Mickey Thomas believes that the absence of Michael Carrick through injury could allow summer signing Marouane Fellaini the chance to shine.

Fellaini was bought from Everton in the summer for £27.5m, but his early performances for the Red Devils have seen supporters split on whether he fits into the club.

Carrick was ruled out for up to six weeks ten days ago with an Achilles injury and, while he is a big miss for the champions, Thomas thinks Fellaini can use his fellow midfielder's absence to prove his worth.

"Personally, I think it might give Fellaini the opportunity to come in and do well", Thomas told MUTV.
