Manchester United manager David Moyes admits that he is planning to rest Wayne Rooney at some point in the future because he doesn't "want his form to dip".

Rooney played in both England's recent friendlies, against Chile and Germany, and while Moyes was not disappointed in that fact, he does believe that the forward will need resting eventually in order to keep him as fresh as possible over the entire season.

Moyes explained via his club's official site: "We've left him out of the odd game and said to him sometimes 'we won't start you in this game, we'll keep you on the bench' but he has been integral to most things we've done so we've needed to use him nearly all the time.

"We don't want his form to dip, we want him to keep that up, but we'll have to keep an eye on things.

"Wayne will understand that. I think he thinks we're doing the right things with him and he would trust us to make that call [to rest him] at the right time."

Rooney has seen his partnership with Robin van Persie at Old Trafford lauded this season, with seven goals to his name in all competitions so far this term, as well as assisting the Dutchman on a number of occasions.

The 28-year-old has featured in 18 games in all competitions.
