Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels that Jon Flanagan's performance for the Reds in the Merseyside derby will ensure a lot more will be seen of the right-back this season.

Flanagan operated as a left-back against Everton in the 3-3 draw and won plaudits from all corners, with Carragher too being very impressed with what he saw.

And the 35-year-old, who called time on his glittering career with Liverpool at the end of last season, is sure that the 20-year-old has forced his way firmly into manager Brendan Rodgers' thinking.

"Flanagan came in at left-back. I've played there and it's not easy playing on your opposite side. Flanagan proved himself under Kenny Dalglish", Carragher said via his club's official site.

"We talk about young English players getting a chance, well Flanagan gets a chance and is one of the best players in the derby match.

"Now he has the confidence of Brendan Rodgers, I think we'll see a lot more of him."

Flanagan was handed his first team debut by Rodgers' predecessor Dalglish, who threw the youngster into a Premier League clash against Manchester City.
