Newcastle and West Ham are ready to hand an English escape route to Dynamo Moscow centre-back Christopher Samba.

According to Russian daily Izvestia, the Magpies and the Hammers are both firm fans of Samba and are each eyeing making a move for the powerful defender when the transfer window swings back open.

Samba is no stranger to English football, having played for Blackburn Rovers and, last season, QPR.

Samba was unable to help keep QPR up in the Premier League, being quickly sold back to Anzhi Makhachkala, from who he had been bought in January.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp expressed his disappointment over Samba's performances, but insisted he was bemused at why the defender put in below par displays.

However, that has not been enough to put off Newcastle and West Ham, who both rate the Congolese highly.

Samba joined Dynamo Moscow this summer, but is believed to be keen on a return to England and would take a pay cut to force through a switch.
