Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner has explained that Sir Alex Ferguson's presence is still very much felt at Old Trafford.

Ferguson called time on his legendary spell at Manchester United at the end of last season, standing down to be succeeded by former Everton manager David Moyes.

Buttner was brought to Old Trafford by Ferguson, who earmarked him as the eventual successor to Patrice Evra. But that path has been less than straightforward under Moyes, who only narrowly missed out on signing Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Dutchman is still content at Manchester United though, with Ferguson's continued presence helping. Indeed, the Scot was there for yesterday's 5-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

"He has not been in the dressing room, but I saw him before and after the game. He's there quite a lot", Buttner told Voetbal Primeur.

"It's nice that he is still around. He is like everyone else at this club, very involved.

"Obviously I was sad at his departure, but I trained under him for a year. A fantastic coach, I will never forget this time, it is always with me.

"Every coach is different. Ferguson had [Rene] Meulensteen, who usually took training. Moyes wants to do it himself."
