Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their interest towards Fabio Coentrao with Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti insisting there had been no fresh request to leave.

Coentrao had been keen, and indeed close, to joining Manchester United this summer but the move fell through.

Ahead of the winter window, Juventus, Monaco and Chelsea are believed to have joined the Red Devils in the Coentrao race, though Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho today denied any link.

And if there was any vestige of desire in Coentrao to leave after the summer, Ancelotti believes that too has disappeared.

"I do not think he will leave," Ancelotti explained to reporters. "Marcelo has started playing again, but only because Coentrao was injured.

"In the summer he asked the club if he could leave but we said no. Now he has not asked to leave.

"Coentrao has to make a good recovery to be ready in January. It is a serious injury. We need to use the [winter] break to get him back."
