David Luiz could be set to push for a January move to Barcelona in order to play regularly ahead of the World Cup, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.
The Brazil defender is struggling to command a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho and was the subject of interest from Barcelona in the summer.
Defensive issues are now dominating the thinking at the Camp Nou following a run of two straight defeats, to Ajax and Athletic Bilbao.
Luiz is a firm favourite of Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and was targeted first in the summer before the Catalans switched their attention to Liverpool's Daniel Agger, failing on that front too.

But now Luiz is believed to be ready to join Barcelona as he seeks regular first team football ahead of next summer's World Cup in his homeland.
Chelsea's attitude over selling the former Benfica man is unclear, though a firm bid from Barcelona may make Mourinho consider cashing in.
Luiz joined Chelsea in January 2011, slipping in almost unnoticed amid the fanfare surrounding another acquisition, Fernando Torres.
