Benfica are fighting to keep hold of centre-back Ezequiel Garay, with strong interest in the Argentine being shown by Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg.
The transfer window in Russia is still open and has a further eleven days left to run, ample time for Zenit to reinforce their squad.
Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti is keen for his side to snap up Garay, a player long linked with Manchester United.
But according to Portuguese daily Record, Benfica are playing hardball and fighting hard to keep hold of the Argentine.
Benfica coach Jorge Jesus is desperate not to lose Garay midway through the season, especially with the transfer window being closed in Portugal and no replacement therefore being able to be signed.
Garay has clocked up 18 appearances in the Portuguese Primeira Liga so far this term, even chipping in with three goals as Jesus' men sit on top of the table, ahead of Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto.
