Former Chelsea and France defender Frank Leboeuf believes that Karim Benzema is a better striker than Olivier Giroud, but stressed there is still room for the Arsenal star in the national team set-up.

Real Madrid hitman Benzema has been engaged in a constant battle with Giroud to gain the nod from France coach Didier Deschamps.

That is sure to only heat up as the summer's World Cup in Brazil draws closer.

Leboeuf, who picked up 50 caps for France between 1995 and 2002, sides with Benzema as the better player out of the two, though he still has words of encouragement for Giroud.

"Giroud is a good option", Leboeuf told RMC.

"Inherently, Benzema is definitely stronger.

"But they have two different games.

"It is good to have these two different options to trouble a defence."

Benzema has so far bagged 18 goals in 63 caps for France, while Giroud has hit the back of the net five times in 25 appearances.
