Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has said that the outcome of the Europa League Round of 16 tie against Benfica will depend on who plays "best on the night and that little bit of luck."

The team from London have a tough run of fixtures ahead with their next Premier League match being against title contenders Arsenal on Sunday.

The young manager knows more than anyone else about how important both matches against Benfica and Arsenal are going to be, but refuses to press the panic button.

“It’s one game at a time for us”, Sherwood told his club's official website.

“No one knows more than me how important the Arsenal game is, but Benfica is the most important as it’s the next one and could give us a huge lift going into the weekend.

“These are two huge games against a massive club and there is huge history and tradition on both sides. Everyone is looking forward to an entertaining game.

“Benfica will be disappointed to have come out of the Champions League. They had 10 points and went out on goal difference, very unlucky.

"They are seen as a Champions League side but we can’t be fazed by that, we’ll go out there and give it our best shot.”

The Portuguese league leaders have hit good form recently and are currently placed seven points clear at the top of the table, having won 18 and drawn only two of their last twenty matches in all competitions.

However, Sherwood refuses to be drawn into any kind of speculation relating to a psychological advantage on the part of Benfica.

“The teams are evenly matched and as normal, it will be down to who plays best on the night and that little bit of luck", he added.
