Nicklas Bendtner is threatening to scare off clubs interested in signing him by demanding a yearly salary of £4.5m.

The Denmark striker, who has been dogged by controversy over the last 12 months, will be a free agent in the summer when his contract at Arsenal expires.

There is little sign of Arsenal moving to talk over an extension with Bendtner, while the striker has made it clear his priority is to leave the Gunners.

To this end his agent Tom Brooks has been sounding out a number of clubs over signing Bendtner.

But according to Danish daily Ekstra Bladet there is one big problem – Bendtner's salary demands.

At present the 26-year-old picks up around £2.5m per year at Arsenal. However, interested clubs have been asked to fork out £2m more than that, a figure of £4.5m per year, if they want to sign the striker.

Bendtner's camp are believed to be arguing that with the striker being available without a fee a bumper wage packet still represents good value for the player's suitors.

It is also thought Bendtner has narrowed his potential list of destinations, wanting to play for a club in England, France, Italy, Spain or Germany.
