Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has acknowledged the importance of his side's progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after they put Galatasaray to the sword, 2-0, at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The tie had been finely balanced at 1-1 heading into the second leg, but Chelsea took an early lead when Samuel Eto'o scored after just four minutes.

The Blues then surged further ahead, with defender Gary Cahill doubling his side's advantage in the 42nd minute.

Galatasaray offered little threat going forward, to make for a comfortable night's work for Mourinho's men. And post-match the Chelsea boss was keen to compare the club's progress in the Champions League to their winning of the Europa League last year.

"Last season the Europa League was a different level but to come from there to the Champions League quarter-final is important for the players and the club", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We are a Champions League club, we are amongst the last eight, the best teams in the world, with all the big clubs. The players deserve to be there", Mourinho added.
