The 62-year-old is currently in charge of the Holland national team, but is set to leave his post after the tournament in June.

Having already been successful with clubs such as Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Van Gaal is expected to bring in a lot of experience into the Premier League if he finally makes a move to England.

The Dutch manager has already been linked with a move to Tottenham, as a replacement for current boss Tim Sherwood. Certain reports have also tipped him to be an appointment at Manchester United, following David Moyes' disappointing run at the helm.

However, the man in question remains tight-lipped about anything more substantial.

"My ambition is to coach a top team in the Premier League," Van Gaal was quoted as saying by German daily Bild.

"I have never experienced the atmosphere in England."

Having already won major titles in three countries, namely Spain, Germany and Holland, the former Bayern Munich manager is eager to make his mark on the English scene.

"I want to win the league title in a fourth country. That's my objective and I want to fulfil it.

"Either that, or I will retire and move with my wife to Portugal."

Van Gaal's national team have been drawn against defending champions Spain, Australia and Chile in Group B with their first match being against Vicente del Bosque's men on 13th June.
