Manchester United defender Phil Jones has hailed the efforts of goalkeeper David de Gea following his side’s 3-0 victory over Greek league leaders Olympiacos in the second leg of the last 16 round of the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Spaniard saved two crucial strikes from David Fuster and Alejandro Dominguez just minutes before Robin van Persie’s second goal in the 45th minute as the English giants made it through to the quarter-finals of the European tournament on an aggregate win of 3-2.

And Jones was all praise for the young shot-stopper.

“He's world-class", the 22-year-old Englishman told his club’s site.

"He's up there with the best goalkeepers in the world. He can produce saves like that at critical moments in a match even when he's not really had much to do.

“He's alive to everything and won us the game", Jones added.

De Gea joined the Old Trafford outfit in 2011 from Atletico Madrid and has made 121 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He has kept five clean sheets in eight Champions League games and has 10 to his name in 29 league appearances this season.
