Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted his "drug is the next game" while reflecting upon the speed with which his 1,000th game at the club has been reached.

Wenger will take charge of the Gunners for his 1,000th game against Chelsea on Saturday in a vital Premier League clash.

His first game in charge of the club came on 12th October, 1996, with Blackburn Rovers providing the opposition.

The Arsenal manager has led the club to Premier League titles and FA Cups, along with a Champions League final, while the latter part of his reign has been marked by a nine-year trophy drought.

And Wenger admits he simply does not know where all the time has gone.

"It makes you feel 'where did the time go?'”, he told Arsenal Player.

"It looks to me like I started yesterday, I can't believe it is such a long time.

"Why? Because you're always focused on looking forward to the next game and when you look back you think I made quite a distance there.

"Despite that, your only interest is the next game, our drug is the next game, the hope for the next game, the desire to win the next one.

"You go step by step and finally when you look back it's a long time. I would just like to say for me it's an honour to manage a club of this dimension for such a long time and I would like to thank everybody who is involved in the club for giving me such a confidence for such a long time."

Wenger is well placed to end Arsenal's trophy drought this season, with the club in the thick of the Premier League title race and also through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
