Manchester United have been handed an injury blow with the news that striker Robin van Persie will be sidelined for four to six weeks.

Van Persie, who was brought off on a stretcher against Olympiacos in midweek, will now miss both legs of Manchester United's Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

The Dutchman had hit the back of the net three times against Olympiacos, but was forced off before the end of the game.

Boss David Moyes was confident post match that Van Persie was not seriously injured, but that has proven not to be the case.

Following scans and tests today, Van Persie has been diagnosed with a sprained knee.

A Manchester United spokesperson said: "Following further investigation Robin van Persie has a sprained knee, which will keep him out for around four to six weeks."
