Wayne Rooney has explained his sublime goal against West Ham today was "just instinct", after he hit a stunning strike from just over the halfway line in Manchester United's 2-0 win over the Hammers.
Rooney scored both goals in the game, but it was his first goal, after just eight minutes, which is guaranteed to make headlines across the globe.

The Manchester United forward volleyed a sublime lob from just over the halfway line which caught West Ham goalkeeper Adrian off guard, sailing over him before bouncing and going into the net.
It was a breathtaking strike which drew comparisons with another Manchester United player, David Beckham, for his goal from the halfway line in 1996.

But Rooney has played down the goal, telling Sky Sports: "It's just instinct.
"I've turned and had a quick look, and I've just seen the goalkeeper off his line.
"It's one I've tried many times and thankfully it's gone in."
Asked whether it was as good as other fine goals he has scored, such as an overhead volley against Manchester City, the England striker answered: "It's up there.
"I wouldn't say it's my favourite. As I said before, all those goals you've mentioned are goals you try in training and in games and when they come off it's great."
