Michael Carrick has dismissed Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool as a "one-off" and claimed the Red Devils are heading into Tuesday's Manchester derby against Manchester City in good heart.

Liverpool grabbed a 3-0 win at Old Trafford on 16th March, but Manchester United then bounced back by beating Olympiacos 3-0 in the Champions League to qualify for the quarter-finals in midweek before beating West Ham 2-0 on league duty on Saturday.

And Carrick, who played in defence instead of midfield against the Hammers, feels that the side's form is good and has brushed off the loss to Liverpool.

"The Liverpool game was a bit of a one-off as far as recent form goes", he explained to his club's site.

"Generally, I think we’ve been pretty good and we’ve been showing signs of getting back to where we want to be."

That means Manchester United host Manchester City confident of achieving a good result, Carrick claims, even if he expects the contest to be a difficult one.

"We’ll go into the City game looking forward to it. It’s obviously a tough game but it’s a tough game for both teams", the midfielder added.
