Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has heaped praise on Juan Mata following the Spaniard’s performance in his side’s 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday, insisting he is a natural number 10.

Despite failing to score or provide an assist against the Hammers at Upton Park, Mata was fluent in attack and troubled the home side persistently.

And Fletcher, who was thrilled to see some of Mata’s touches, was most impressed with the 25-year-old’s link-up play with Wayne Rooney, Manchester United’s two-goal hero against West Ham.

The Scotland international further added that the Red Devils were a compact attacking force at the weekend, something which the supporters have been longing to witness this season.

"Some of Juan's touches were fantastic", Fletcher said via MUTV.

"He pulled one out of the sky in the first half that was sublime.

"[Behind the forward] is Juan’s natural position, he likes playing in there. And with the likes of Wayne running in behind defenders, he’ll [Mata] always look to find him.

“We had great movement going forward and pace in the wide areas. People have been wanting to see that and it was there."

Manchester United, who are currently seventh in the Premier League with 51 points from 30 games, will next face their fierce local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford tomorrow before welcoming Aston Villa to the ground on Saturday.
