Hoffenheim have made a statement of intent over keeping in-demand Roberto Firmino, by signing the attacking midfielder to a new contract which runs until 2017.

Firmino has been the subject of strong interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool, with the pair joining a number of Europe's elite in sending scouts to watch the 22-year-old in action.

Within Germany both Schalke and Wolfsburg have admitted a liking for Firmino, but Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol has been vocal in his desire for the Brazilian to stay put.

And Gisdol appears to have got his way, with the midfielder putting pen to paper on a fresh deal.

"I feel very comfortable here", said Firmino, reacting on his new contract.

"We're playing an exciting brand of football, the team spirit is super, and I will continue to work hard in order to help the team as much as I can in future too."

Firmino, who linked up with Hoffenheim in 2011, has made 26 appearances for the club in the Bundesliga this season, hitting an impressive 13 goals and providing eleven assists for his team-mates.

He also scored six goals in the club's German Cup tilt, with four assists thrown in for good measure.
