Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that a decision will soon be made on the future of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The 23-year-old’s contract with the Black and Yellows ends in summer 2015, but the German international has been linked to a number of big clubs including the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, and Watzke believes a decision over a renewal is not far off.

"With regard to his contract, this is not a case that will keep going. I think it's only a matter of weeks”, he told Reuters.

Gundogan has been suffering from a back injury since August last year, and has hence made only three appearances with one goal in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

But the player, who joined Dortmund in 2011 from Nurnberg, has scored six goals in 57 league appearances, and is someone the Bundesliga club will be desperate to hold onto.

BVB lost Mario Gotze in the summer last year and Robert Lewandowski is due to leave this July. The club are keen to avoid any further high-profile departures.
