Bayern Munich may be without Thiago Alcantara for the remainder of the season after he picked up a knee injury today.

The Spain midfielder picked up the niggle during his side's 3-3 home Bundesliga draw against Hoffenheim and will be unavailable for both legs of Bayern Munich's Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United.

The German champions said in a statement: "A partial ligament tear in his knee means he will be out for six to eight weeks."

The 22-year-old could well miss the rest of the season, with the Bundesliga campaign ending on 10th May.

Alcantara joined Bayern Munich last summer from Barcelona, linking up with his former coach Pep Guardiola.

The midfielder had been chased by Manchester United, but opted to head to Germany instead.
