Manchester United defender Phil Jones is realistic about the Red Devils’ chances against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals and accepts that this it is going to be a real test of character for a Manchester United team that are going through a bad season.

Jones is ready to accept that Bayern Munich are overwhelming favourites to qualify for the semi-finals at the expense of Manchester United.

But the 22-year-old has stressed that the Manchester United team are leaving no stone unturned in their preparation before they face the European champions. Jones does admit that it will be a shock if the Red Devils’ win the tie against the Bavarians however.

"We will study them, I am sure, see what they are good at and try to exploit any weaknesses they have”, he said to the club’s official site.

“Listen, we are realistic and know how difficult the game is going to be. We know how well they are playing, they are in form and have won the league with seven games to go. But who knows?”

Although Bayern Munich are the runaway favourites to beat Manchester United, Jones is counting on a magical European night at Old Trafford in the first leg, where the Red Devils hope to shock the European champions.

“It is the Champions League, it is a home tie at Old Trafford and if we get the crowd behind us then you just never know.”

Manchester United take on Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie at Old Trafford on Tuesday 1st April.
