Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his side's performance against Manchester City on Saturday was the perfect way for them to answer their critics.

The Gunners, who had lost against Chelsea (6-0) and drawn against Swansea (2-2) had been dismissed as a "million miles away" from winning the Premier League by former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes.

Wenger's men earned a hard-fought draw against the Citizens, the game ending 1-1 and, for the Frenchman, hitting back at their critics.

"We have gone through an absolute nightmare, a storm, this week. The critics come very quick and very hard, the only way we can deal with it is to respond in the next game, and that is what we did", he told his club's site.

"It has been very bad, but as well very positive because it is always an opportunity to show you have some mental strength, so I am very proud of my players because they have shown that", Wenger concluded.

Arsenal, who have collected 64 points from 32 Premier League games so far, need a further ten points from their remaining six games to finish the campaign with a higher total than they managed last season.
