Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has explained that he is grateful to have a manager like Brendan Rodgers, who is the type of boss young players "cry out for." 

Sterling, who was drafted into the starting line-up by Rodgers in the Reds’ 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, put in a sparkling display against Spurs at Anfield.

And the youngster expressed his gratitude towards the manager for having the belief to play him in such a high-profile game.

However, Sterling, who has scored seven goals in all competitions this season, admitted that he was disappointed when Rodgers relegated him to the bench for the clashes against Cardiff City and Sunderland.

"It was disappointing being on the bench for two games but I knew I had to be ready if I was called back and I am grateful to the manager for having the belief to put me in for a big game and the team got the win”, he was quoted as saying by ITV.

"It is great to have a manager who has belief in you; as a young player that is what you cry out for. I am just grateful to have a manager like that at this club."

Sterling has thus far made a total of 71 appearances for the club, netting nine times.

The 19-year-old has two senior caps for England and has also represented the nation at various youth levels.
