For Daniel Carvajal the last two seasons have been a rollercoaster of emotions. After being sold to Bayer Leverkusen for €5m in 2012, Real Madrid bought him back at the start of the 2013/14 season and he is delighted to have returned to his boyhood club.

Carvajal is a product of Real Madrid’s youth academy. Due to limited opportunities in the first team the defender accepted a transfer to Leverkusen to further his career.

After a good season under his belt in Germany, the 22-year-old could barely believe it when Real Madrid triggered a buy-back clause in 2013.

"I knew they could sign me again in three years' time, so I worked very hard, but it hadn't crossed my mind that they would come back in for me so soon", the Spanish international told UEFA’s official site.

Carvajal, a boyhood Real Madrid fan, was delighted at the opportunity to return to his homeland, family and most importantly, his boyhood football club.

"It was a dream come true when I found out, I was quite emotional.

"After spending a year away from my family, to get that news was special."

After spending a year with Bayer Leverkusen, the right full-back returned to Real Madrid at the start of this season and has already made 42 appearances for Los Merengues, including 35 starts.
