West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is hopeful about his side upsetting Liverpool at Upton Park on Sunday.

The Reds have surged to the top of the Premier League standings with 71 points from 32 games after notching up eight consecutive league victories.

Liverpool’s latest triumph came in the form of a 4-0 demolition of top-four hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield at the weekend.

And Allardyce, whose side edged out Sunderland 2-1 last night, acknowledged the fact that Liverpool are a far better team on paper.

However, the manager insisted that his side will give their all to come out with a positive result against Brendan Rodgers’ men.

"We've taken the pressure hugely off ourselves to really have a go at this game now and I think that they are the most in-form team in the league now alongside Everton”, Allardyce explained to his club’s official site.

"We've got to be the ones who muscle in on Liverpool and see if we can upset them.

“Lots of people in the world of football will think we won't have a chance with the form that we're in and, I suppose, on paper they're right but in this league you never, never know.

"So, the players will give their all on Sunday and let's hope that's enough to upset the leaders of the Barclays Premier League."

West Ham, who are currently 11th in the Premier League table with 37 points from 32 games, lost the corresponding fixture 4-1 at Anfield in December.
