Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has denied any rumours suggesting that his limited playing time is due to a rift between manager David Moyes and himself.

Giggs played against Olympiacos in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie at Old Trafford in which the Red Devils overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit and beat the Greek champions 3-0 courtesy of a Robin van Persie hat-trick. It was Giggs’ first start for Manchester United since 28th January, when they beat Cardiff 2-0 at Old Trafford.

But the Welshman has scoffed at rumours of a rift with the manager and termed them baseless.

"There is no problem with the manager; I don't know where that came from. The relationship is good”, the 40-year-old was quoted as saying by ITV.

Giggs does admit that as a professional he wants to play more, but at his age he needs to manage his body and playing time, so that he can give his best whenever his services are required by the team.

"Of course as a player you want to play all the time. I normally play every two or three weeks to get the best out of me.

“The last game was probably my first for seven weeks but you are not sulking, you just have to be ready to play your best for the team."

Giggs will hope to feature in Manchester United’s line-up when they take on Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie in Old Trafford tonight.
