Leeds United boss Brian McDermott has insisted he is a "strong character" who will not be bowed down by the current crisis situation at the club.

The Yorkshire giants are on a poor run of form and suffered their fifth defeat in their last six home games in midweek when going down 1-0 against Charlton.

McDermott even received abusive phone calls in the wake of the loss, while the club are still waiting to find out if Italian businessman Massimo Cellino will win his appeal against the Football League disqualifying him from buying 75 per cent of the club.

But the former Reading manager insists he is digging in for the long haul and believes he has the strength of character to cope with the current situation at Elland Road.

"I've learnt that I'm a strong character", he told a press conference today.

"I'm not going to bow down", McDermott added.

"You learn a lot about people. You learn a lot about yourself. You learn about how to conduct yourself."

The English tactician also explained that his coaching studies did not prepare him for the current turmoil he is experiencing at Elland Road.

"You don't get taught this, this is something that you have to go through, but you definitely don't get taught this on the pro-licence."
