Manchester United custodian David de Gea has explained that he is not worried about accolades and will keep on performing well for the team during the rest of the season.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been one of the rare bright spots in an otherwise dull looking team this season and has been tipped to win the club's Player of the Year award, which will be decided through votes by fans.

Apart from a number of brilliant saves, the 23-year-old has also managed to maintain 11 clean sheets in 32 Premier League games this season, managing to earn praise from various quarters.

However, the man concerned wants to remain out of focus, concentrating on the job in hand.

"I couldn’t say – it’s down to the fans who vote", De Gea told his club's official site while speaking about his chances of winning the award.

"It’s not something I focus on too much. I always try to perform to the best of my ability, to have a good season and stay on the right track – that’s all."

With players like Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj around, the task, De Gea admits, is going to be difficult.

"We’ve got some players who’ve done well throughout the season and others who’ve had good spells during it.

"So there are plenty of candidates but it’s difficult to pick one", the Spanish custodian added.
